About the author
This is an open invitation to spend time in Joe’s World. Joe is a retired New York City firefighter who recently had both his knees replaced. During his recovery in February of 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. Shaken to his core, he wanted to help. Not sure what to do, he recalled his dream of bicycling across America, and a fundraiser came into his mind.
Join Joe on this roller coaster of a ride that encompasses one year of his life, starting from his bilateral knee replacement surgery and ending at the Pacific Ocean. He has to pick himself up off the ground more than a few times. He travels to Poland and Ukraine to volunteer and make a difference for those in need.
Throughout the adventure, Joe also deals with two demons: anxiety and insomnia.
The bicycle adventure has other adversities as well: the weather, mountains, stray dogs, and bicycle breakdowns. Logistic nightmares, along with other twists and turns, pop up daily. Joe encounters numerous characters and generous strangers along the journey, reminding him of the good in the world.
